    EFL Afterschool Programs

Galapagos ICE has started EFL programs in Bellavista, a town 5 minutes from Puerto Ayora, for children and adults. The money for student enrollment into the classes is minimal and used for class materials and developing and stocking a library in the town. Recent enrollment money was also used to reupholster a fine chair that was salvaged from the garbage, build desks, paint and buy what was needed for a new virtual library.

Classes are taught 3 times a week from mid-afternoon to early evening. Our last EFL classes had 18 6-7 year old students, 31 8-12 year old students and 3 adults enrolled. The younger students are taught greetings, body parts, clothing, and house vocabulary while older students learn more advanced greetings, positions, “to be” verbs, body parts, clothes, food, and favorite things. Adults are taught introductions, this & that, body parts with medical problems, and house vocabulary. All age groups learn names, ages, numbers, family, colors, animals, vegetables/fruits, greetings, time, days of the week, and months of the year. The activities are structured to complement existing English instruction students receive during the day in regular classes.
